John Phillips


John Phillips is an active adjudicator and clinician, whose work has taken him around the world. Phillips has provided his unique brand of music education across Japan, Malaysia, Europe, South America, and North America. For the past 15 years he has served as judge administrator for Drum Corps International and was inducted into the DCI Hall of Fame class of 2015.

Always in demand as an expert on marching music education, Phillips was also a member of the National Association for Music Education Blue Ribbon Panel on marching music standards, and chaired the DCI Marching Music Academy. In 2010, he received the MENC award for Excellence in Marching Music Education. He regularly judges for the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB), Music for All/Bands of America and numerous pageantry organizations.

Phillips recently retired from the University of Western Ontario where he conducted the Symphonic Band and taught in both the Faculty of Music and Education. He has also been an instructor at the University of Toronto and York University. John Phillips served as the Arts curriculum supervisor at the Ministry of Education for Ontario, and Principal of music teacher training programs at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

Phillips regularly presents clinics and workshops for music educators around the globe in his capacity as Cognitive and Creative Development Senior Advisor for Music Mentors International.

He recently moved from Canada to the United States and resides in Cape Coral, Florida.
